Amity University, a private research institution of a dozen campuses, headquartered in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with The Ohio State University on behalf of its Carbon Management and Sequestration Center (CMASC) within the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES).

Students all over the world are adapting to new and different modes of learning due to the current pandemic, and K-12 students in Honduras are no different.
Thanks to a partnership between 4-H programs at Ohio State, the University of Georgia and Zamorano University in Honduras, 4-H clubs are being established at schools in Honduras.

The CFAES Annual Research Conference will take place on Thursday, April 8, 2021 (virtually) beginning at 12:30 pm and concluding at 2 pm. The agenda will consist of a question and answer session with Dr. Rattan Lal, 2020 World Food Prize Laureate, announcements of the research award winners, an update on the CFAES research enterprise, and the annual poster competition for graduate and undergraduate students.

Jaelene Loor Suche of Ecuador first came to Honduras to study at Zamorano Pan-American Agricultural School. She then came to OSU to do the internship required of Zamorano undergraduates. She now has “returned” to both institutions, but virtually. Communities flourish when NGOs work on a development/empowerment model, not a relief/provisional one.

Curious about the Peace Corps? Environment Volunteers lead grassroots efforts to protect the environment and strengthen understanding of environmental issues. They teach environmental awareness in schools and to local organizations, empowering communities to make their own decisions about how to conserve the local environment, through such programs as agroforestry, soil and water conservation, sustainable agriculture, recycling, alternative energy, and other programs.

A two-week training program in August 2021 for 15 scientists from Bangladesh and The Philippines will focus on the scientific and technical aspects of food safety standards, systems, and best practices necessary for ensuring the protection of public health in the U.S. and export markets. Knowledge and connections gained by these Cochran Fellows will provide them with an opportunity to increase their country’s capacity for agricultural research, extension, and participation in international trade.

With Hurricanes Eta and Iota having hit Honduras fewer than two weeks apart and flooding to this day, two members of the Entomology Department at OSU Wooster, graduate student Ana Trabanino Pino and visiting scholar Erick Martinez Rodriguez put out a call for donations. In less than a week, they rented a 20-foot truck (after receiving too much bedding, tents, clothing, medicine etc.
