CFAES Faculty Abroad
In March 2017 Dr. Valente B. Alvarez, Professor and Director of the Food Industries Center, spent two weeks in Nicaragua delivering training on product handling and processing methods, to ultimately improve food safety and product quality in the country’s dairy processing plants. Dairy plant visits were conducted at the following locations: Ganadería Cisne, Grupo Industrial del Norte S.A. GRINSA, Finca San Ramon, Cooperative Nicacentro, Gelateria Kiss Me, Cooperative San Felipe, Cooperative Masiguito, and Cooperative San Francisco de Asis. The dairies produce a variety of cheeses, milk, and ice cream.
Dr. Robert Agunga, Associate Professor in the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education and Leadership (ACEL) was awarded a grant for $455,239 from The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine for an international development research project titled, "Improving Agricultural Extension in Pakistan through Communication for Development.” The purpose is to pilot-test a communication strategy for improving aid effectiveness.
Dr. Clay Sneller, Professor in the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science, is serving as a Senior Scientist / Lead Plant Breeder at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in Nairobi Kenya.
Dr. Lucy Stewart, adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Plant Pathology and USDA-ARS research scientist, visits Chau Nguyen - 2015 USDA Borlaug Fellow in Plant Pathology at Ohio State - in Vietnam to further their joint research on developing host induced gene technologies in leafhoppers.
Dr. Peg Redinbaugh, adjunct professor in the Deaprtment of Plant Pathology and USDA-ARS research scientist, visits Victoria Bulegeya - iAGRI M.S. student in Horticulture and Crop Science at Ohio State - in Tanzania to further their research on the genetic resistance to Maize Lethal Necrosis (MLN).
Gireesh Rajashekara, DVM, PhD, Associate Professor in the Food Animal Health Research Program at OARDC delivers a lecture on foodborn pathogens to faculty and students at Sokoine University of Agriculture in Morogoro, Tanzania during a July 2015 visit.
Dr. Allan Line, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics, visited Ukraine in May 2015 as part of a follow up visit to fellows who participated in USDA's Faculty Exchange Program at Ohio State.
Suzanne Gray, Asst. Professor - School of Environment & Natural Resources, with a Ugandan colleague. Dr. Gray works on a collaborative research project in Uganda focused on assessing the response of fish communities to increased turbidity & to better inform conservation initiatives.
Dr. Sally Miller, Professor of Plant Pathology, leads a workshop on invasive pest and dieseases in Dakar, Senegal through the IPM-Innovation Lab's International Plant Diagnostics Network (May, 2014).
