Thobela Nkukwana, 2017 Borlaug Fellow and lecturer in poultry nutrition at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, is working with Dr. Michael Cressman and Dr. Michael Lilburn (Animal Sciences) on a project entitled “Assessing the effects of exogenous enzymes in high fiber diets on the gut health, nutrient utilization, and body weight gains of broilers”.
Alimata Bandaogo, 2017 Borlaug Fellow and research specialist at the Institute of Environment and Agronomic Research, Burkina Faso, is working with Dr. Rafiq Islam on a project entitled “Improving efficiency and profitability of fertilizer use within the framework of integrated soil fertility management for smallholder farmers”.
Kristine Pascual, 2017 Borlaug Fellow and Senior Research Specialist at the Philippine Rice Research Institute, the Philippines, is working with Dr. Rattan Lal (School of Environment and Natural Resources) on a project entitled “Climate Smart Agriculture: Research wetting-dry production systems to sustain rice yield and reduce methane emissions through improved water and nutrient management”.
Research Scientist in the Senegalese Institute for Agricultural Research, completed his USDA Borlaug Fellowship at OARDC in Wooster, OH from September- December, 2016 with Dr. Thaddeus Ezeji, Associate Professor in the Department of Animal Sciences. He studied various strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in livestock systems.
Nataliia Didenko, Research Scientist in the Institute of Water Problems and Land Recelmation in Ukraine, completed her USDA Borlaug Fellowship at Ohio State South Centers in Piketon, OH from August - November, 2016 with Dr. Rafiq Islam, Research Scientist and Program Leader in the CFAES Soil and Bioenergy Program. She studied the effects of irrigation on soil quality and structure.
Rosemary Isoto, PhD Student in Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics, stands with her research poster at the 2015 International Scholarship Symposium at Ohio State.
Lilian Gichuru, a 2015 Borlaug Fellow from the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization in Nairobi, Kenya, is researching genetic resistance to maize lethal necrosis (MLN) at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (April, 2015)
Dr. Chau Nguyen, a 2015 Borlaug Fellow from Ho Chi Minh City Open University in Vietnam, conducts research with Dr. Lucy Stewart in the USDA-ARS Research Unit at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (April, 2015).
Kairat Tabynov, a senior researcher from the Research Institute for Biological Safety Problems in Gvardeiskiy City, Kazakhstan, completed a 3 month Borlaug Fellowship with Dr. Aradhya Gourapura of Ohio State's Food Animal Health Research Program from Sept-Dec, 2015.
Mohamed Mpina, a 2015 Borlaug Fellow from the Tropical Pesticides Research Institute in Tanzania, is conducting research on maize lethal necrosis with Dr. David Francis, Professor of Horticulture and Crop Science, at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (April 2015)
Irene Kargbo is a current Ph.D. student with Dr. Luis Canas in the Department of Entomoloy. She is an entomologist with the Central Agricultural Research Institute in Monrovia, Liberia, and has a research interest in developing bio-control strategies for managing crop pests.
Deogracious Protas, a researcher in molecular biology from Sokoine University of Agriculture's Department of Crop Science and Production, is fulfilling a 3 month research visit with the Molecular and Cellular Imaging Center at the Ohio Agricultural Research an Development Center (August, 2014).
